What are the highlights of the proposed changes?
- Mandatory declaration of added sugars, when present
- Mandatory declaration of nutrients of public health significance:
a. include Vitamin D and Potassium values
b. Vitamin A and C values are no longer required to be declared
- Removal of “Calories from fat” while continuing to declare “Total Fat,” “Saturated Fat,” and “Trans Fat”
- Changes to the units of measure
- Changes to the serving size based on customary consumption
- Description of serving size
- Declaring the actual amount, in addition to Percent Daily Value, of nutrients
- Larger font to make the nutrition facts easy to read
- Nutrition facts in 2 separate columns: per serving and per package
